The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit agricultural research for development organization with partners in over 100 countries.

CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Research Assistant to assist through the configuration, analysis, and application of research techniques according to the project assigned to the unit.

This position is strictly temporary for 6 months.

The position is based at CIMMYT’s campus in Texcoco, State of Mexico, located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico.

Specific Duties:

  • Develop and apply research techniques and procedures, the analysis of mixed farming systems and related assessment frameworks.
  • Support the application and adaptation of the Tool for Agroecological Performance Evaluation (TAPE-FAO) methodology.
  • Collaborate in the research activities carried out in the different stages of the project assigned to the Unit.
  • Assist to ensure the techniques are performed in compliance with established quality standards.
  • Prepare a record and report of the tasks performed and the results achieved.
  • Report to your immediate supervisor any abnormal situations that arise in the project’s development.
  • Participate and assist in the statistical analysis of the information by developing databases, to present reports on the results achieved by the project.
  • Assist project team in publication of research results.
  • Collaborate in the attention of scientists and visitors to the Program.
  • Other related activities that may be assigned by the supervisor.


Requirements

  • The selected candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Agroecology, Agronomy, Biological Sciences or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a similar position and on the application of analytical tools for systems analysis.
  • Ability to analyze data using R-studio.
  • Sufficient competency to use the standard Windows-based software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and email used at CIMMYT with occasional assistance.
  • Basic-Intermediate level of English (written and conversational).
  • The selected candidate must exhibit the following competencies: Organization, Critical thinking, Teamwork, Client Orientation, Problem Solving decision making, Negotiation and Conflict resolution.
